Shift

Brass, acrylic, tin, nylon, gear motor, pulleys, Arduino, ultrasonic distance sensor
2013

Made in collaboration with Isaac Blankensmith, Shift is an interactive lamp that displays two modes of lighting — ambient and spotlight. The shades act as counter weights, raising and lowering via pulleys and a gear motor. These analog outputs are controlled by the signals of an ultrasonic distance sensor (which reads the distance between the user and the light).
